I know Easter is not only about the gifts and egg hunting. It is about celebrating hope and new life, but when you have children it is almost impossible not to follow the tradition of the Easter Bunny and fill their day with surprises.

Take advantage of this day and spend quality time with your family!

My baby was 2 months old for his first Easter, so we didn't do anything big, but now that he is a year old and walks, I really want to do the egg hunting for him. The biggest problem is that most Easter egg hunts involve chocolate and candy, which are not good for babies under 2 years old.

I kept looking for ideas to fill the plastic eggs that are usually used for this and I couldn't find anything good and useful for a baby. There were a lot of tiny toys that he can swallow or are not safe, so if using the standard plastic eggs filled with things was not an option any more, what else could I do?.

A lot of people do an Easter basket for their babies and done, problem solved! That’s actually what we did the first year -I’ll share about it here to so you can get some ideas- but I still want him to do have the experience of the Easter egg hunt. Well, I found a pretty great solution to do both!!! So, keep reading.

In this post I’ll share with you the things I plan to do that day and some gift recommendations. I’m going to start with the Egg Hunt since it’s what I’m most excited about, but that won’t be the only thing will be doing.

This is the order of topics I’m going to share with you in this post:

  1. Easter egg hunt ideas for babies and toddlers.

  2. Easter basket ideas for babies 0-6 months old.

  3. Easter basket ideas for babies and toddlers.

  4. Other activities to do at home with toddlers to celebrate Easter.

Easter Egg Hunt Ideas for Babies and Toddlers

I found these egg shape toys that look like the standard plastic eggs but are actually great toys for baby development. My plan is to hide them individually around the garden -you can do it around the house too if you don’t want to be outdoors or you don’t have a garden- so he can do his egg hunt and put the whole set together.

These are the 2 I bought:

These stackable soft eggs can help babies develop their sense of touch and vision by touching and observing the patterns. Plus, they can be used as teethers.

This sensory toy encourages babies to recognize animals, numbers, colors, shapes and emoticons, and teach them to count, balance, exercise and other motor skills.

We are going to use this toy for so many of his growing and learning stages, so I thought it was pretty perfect for the occasion and a great addition to his toy box.

This second toy I got is great for matching colors and shapes.

These interactive eggs will improve baby’s hand dexterity, color recognition, and fine motor skills.

These are other similar options that can be used as a substitute:

Egg shape maracas with markers to paint them.

Eggs with squeak toys inside.

Colorful wooden egg maracas.

Easter Basket for Babies 0-6 Months Old

For my baby’s first Easter, we were lucky to have one of my little brothers at home so we have cute memories celebrating with 2 kids and in different ways.

Of course, my little brother got lots of chocolate and candy and for our baby we got him some plush toys and a Carter’s bunny pajamas.

Here are some photos of what we got with some of the links -not everything we got is available now- and links for other ideas.

The bunny pajamas that you see in the photo on the left is not available any more, but here are a couple of similar Carter’s pajamas that are super cute:

Some other great options for babies are:

  • Security Blankets:

  • Teethers:

  • Other Plush Toys:

I don’t know if you’ve seen the famous peek-a-boo elephant (my son can spend ours watching it sing), there is a bunny version perfect for the Easter theme.

Easter Basket Ideas for Babies and Toddlers (+6 Months Old)

For baby’s older than 6 months old there are more you can still use some of the previous ideas but I wanted to show you some other cool options.

As he grows I try to be more intentional with the toys I get him, so I look for toys that will help with his development or will teach him something.

This year’s Easter basket for my son.

I’m still missing a couple of books that haven’t arrived, but wanted to show you how it’s looking.

Here are some other ideas and the links:

  • Educational and Developmental Toys:

In addition to the 2 toys I bought for the egg hunt I got these matryoshka style egg toy that helps babies with the concept of object permanence, which means the baby will learn to understand that things they can’t see still exist.

The set I have is not in prime so you won't get it on time, but this one is the same just different painting/ characters.

This one I plan to get it in the future, it helps to teach them sorting skills, problem-solving abilities and manual dexterity.

  • Books:

Reading books to your babies and toddlers has so many benefits -Click here to read a post I did about this- that it’s impossible to leave them out of the gift options.

I love and collect dr.seuss books!

bellow you’ll find some titles that can be good options for an easter theme basket.

Books are also great options for expecting moms.

I wrote about the benefits of reading to your baby during pregnancy.

These are Easter specific books from other authors (I’m actually waiting for the Blue’s Clues and Little Blue Truck ones, my son LOVES these 2 characters):

Other Activities to Do at Home with Toddlers to Celebrate Easter

Ok, enough of the material surprises, now it’s time to talk about the other things you can do to celebrate with the whole family.

Make an Easter Themed Breakfast

There are a lot of ideas out there! Some are pretty fun like bunny shaped or decorated food, but just in case you are like me and need to keep it easy and simple I’ll give you my 3 ingredient carrot pancake recipe.

We’ll probably pair this with orange and carrot juice and eggs.

Carrot pancakes

Ingredients: (Makes 5 big pancakes or 10 small ones approx)

• 1 egg
• 1/3 cup oat flour
• 4 oz pure carrot
• Cinnamon

Click the photo to see the preparation video I posted on Instagram.

In this video says “butternut squash” but it’s exactly the same, just substitute the squash for carrots.

Read the Easter Books Together

Read to your baby the Easter themed books and also tell them about the meaning of Easter.

Make Easter Themed Crafts with Them

You can find a lot of craft ideas to do with your baby. These are some I’ve found:

I loved this sensory activity from @colores_para_mama (Click the photo to watch the video)

These carton plate bunny ears from @midlandenfamilia are pretty cool (Click the photo to watch the video)

My friend Anne from @miamiconhijos wrote this post with lots of other Easter crafts ideas, go and check it out here:
